D7 Chalks Up “EXCELLENT” Report Card Rating
We are very pleased with the rating; the mark of excellence is not new to the district.” said Superintendent Russell Booker. “While the rankings are informative to some degree, and point most directly to the gains in the graduation rate at Spartanburg High School, there are so many outstanding accomplishments taking place in the district that are not reflected in this assessment.”
Included in the list of achievements, said Booker, is being named to the League of Innovative Schools this fall. “District Seven is one of only 57 school districts in the nation to be recognized for it’s innovative vision for learning. It’s that the kind of recognition which truly reflects the level of excellence happening throughout our district. We’re committed to enhancing education from the cradle to college – we’ve put technology in the hands of every student, we’re engaging them in leadership learning, and we’re striving to ensure they have the personal development to be competitive wherever they chose to go.”
Increasing the graduation rate at Spartanburg High School accounts for 40% of the absolute rating. District Seven’s current graduation rate of 80.3 represents an increase of almost 20% over a five-year period. Equally important, the dropout rate in the district has dropped significantly from 7.5% in 2008 to 2.3% last year.
In addition to the District’s overall rating, Dr. Booker also commented on the longstanding mark of excellence at Pine Street Elementary. “Of the 660 elementary schools in South Carolina, Pine Street is ranked number six in the assessment ratings. It shouldn’t be overlooked Pine Street continues to perform in the top 1% in our state.”
