Deputy Superintendent Gets Kudos for Creativity
Dr. Pruitt has an extensive background in the arts having served as a band director, choral director, drama teacher, and church choir director. He has directed many community and school theatre productions including last year’s production of Grease held at the Chapman Cultural Center. During his career Dr. Pruitt has also been recognized for his commitment to education and community service with prestigious accolades including the Inez Tenenbaum School Leadership Award, the Rotarian of the Year, Lander University Distinguished Alumnus of the Year and the William B. Harley South Carolina School Administrator of the Year.
Harry Culpepper, Jr., Chair of the Awards Committee of the SCAAE, said, “Dr. Pruitt is an exemplary model of one who is committed to providing the children of South Carolina with the Arts in their education. It was said in his nomination that he doesn’t believe that the arts are an ‘option’ or ‘extracurricular’ but that they are essential to a child’s education, a view that the SCAAE shares and is therefore very pleased to have Dr. Pruitt as its 2014 Arts Administrator of the Year.”
Dr. Pruitt received the award during the SCAAE Conference in Columbia. He is shown here with Harry Culpepper (SCAAE Board Member and Theater Teacher at Hilton Head Island School for the Creative Arts) and Carol Baker (SCAAE Board Member and Coordinator of Outreach for SC Governor’s School).
