McCracken Student Named Best Singer in the District
Lou Lou Morris, 3rd grader at Pine Street School, won the elementary category; Faith Ballenger, SHS Freshman Academy, took the high school category; and Nathaly Hansana, 5th grader at EP Todd, was the people’s choice winner.
The Best Singer in the District Program is a statewide competition created to promote and recognize quality vocal singing, as well as to promote aspiring vocal performers and entertainers. The program is supported by music teachers throughout the state and the SC Institute for Vocal Training.
The judges were Dr. H. Alan Bailey, Sr., CEO of What Da Word Say Records and Eye C Records, Brantley Smith, original drummer from Hootie and the Blowfish, and Sherie Wilson, vocal instructor and owner of Tone Tutors Voice Studio. The finale event was emceed by Diane Lee, News Channel 7 morning anchor and consumer advocate for 7 On Your Side. The competition was a benefit for the musical theatre program, and over $3,500 was raised through ticket sales and sponsorship by 107.3 JAMZ!, Texas Roadhouse, Pitch Doctors, Ingles, and the South Carolina Institute for Vocal Training.
