A Message From Mr. Clark

Welcome to The Cleveland Academy of Leadership!

It is a great privilege to serve as your principal. New beginnings always hold such excitement and promise, and whether you are a new Cleveland Academy student, a new parent, or simply beginning a new day in your life, I look forward to building on our shared hopes and dreams as we make a new start together.

The Cleveland Academy of Leadership is dedicated to building a school of leaders. Children lead at Cleveland. You will see student leaders working in the office, assisting in the parking lot, assisting at lunch, helping with the bus lines, and helping at recess. We work hard to give children a voice.

As a Franklin Covey Leader in Me school, our staff embraces an innovative, school-wide model that emphasizes a culture of student empowerment. We help students understand just how powerful they can be when they harness their unique talents and strengths. Through Leader in Me, we teach Franklin Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, engage in student goal setting, and work together for student success. In fact, Cleveland does this so well that we earned the prestigious designation of a Leader in Me Lighthouse School, signifying that our students, staff and families have met or exceeded 144 best practice criteria. Spartanburg School District Seven is extraordinarily proud of our efforts to raise the next generation of leaders.

We are steadfastly committed to educating the whole child. At Cleveland, everyone will not only feel the sense of urgency for student learning, but also see it as we build a teaching and learning community based on student needs and interests. Our hope and dream for all students is to achieve meaningful academic and personal growth. We value practices that build intrinsic motivation and we seek to ensure that every child has a personal connection with at least one adult in the building.

You can depend on me being a servant leader devoted to planting seeds of dignity and respect in our children and inspiring them to cultivate those seeds, producing a crop of unprecedented success. Please know that as principal you can count on me for the following:

• to continue to support student leadership;
• for honest, respectful communication;
• to demonstrate fairness and confidentiality;
• to be a presence in classrooms, observing teaching and learning;
• to put safety first;
• and to know your child.

Thank you for the opportunity to love and support our children.

Yours In Service,
Marquice Clark
