Music

Music at Pine Street School is alive and growing! All students, kindergarten through fourth grade, have general music classes once or twice a week. Fifth grade students have the option to remain in general music or sign up to take band or orchestra.

Primary grades are taught by Jessica King, and intermediate classes are taught by Lori Patterson. Students learn music terminology, basic music reading, notation, classroom percussion (Orff instruments), appropriate vocal technique and study multicultural music. Our music specialists are also very involved with Pine Street’s arts infusion focus. Fourth grade students play the recorder for part of the year and fifth grade students who remain in general music learn to play a variety of instruments from guitar to xylophone to African drums.

Pine Street students in grades 2-5 have the opportunity to sign up for one of our school choral programs.

Pine Street Kids Inc. was formed in 2011 and is directed by Jessica King. Interested students in second and third grades meet before school once a week to practice. They perform periodically during the school year. Please contact Jessica King for more information.

The Pine Street Singers is our choir for fourth and fifth grade students. Students meet one morning a week before school to rehearse. Extra rehearsals are called as needed. These students perform at school functions such as the Fall Festival and Veterans Day, give periodic concerts and perform at community events like Wofford College basketball games. Members of this group are also encouraged to audition for events like the South Carolina Elementary Honor Choir and the Bill Drake Holiday Festival.  For more information about the Pine Street Singers, please contact Lori Patterson.
