School History
Located at 1505 Fernwood Glendale Road in Spartanburg, SC, Jesse Boyd Elementary School opened its doors in January 1965. The school is named after long time Spartanburg School District Board Trustee, Jesse W. Boyd.
At the time of its opening, Jesse Boyd served 915 students in grades 1-5. Jesse Boyd has primarily served the Eastside of Spartanburg and families from the Hillbrook and Pierce Acres neighborhoods.
In 1982, Jesse Boyd began serving students in 5 year old kindergarten.
In 1998, Jesse Boyd had some major renovations where a health room, a stage in the cafeteria, an Odyssey wing, and updates to the lower grades area were done.
In 2004, 4 year old kindergarten was added to Jesse Boyd.
Spartanburg School District 7 made some adjustments to how school were designed in 2011. At that time all 4 year old kindergarten students were served at the Early Learning Center at Park Hills and 6th grade students moved to McCraken Middle School.
In 2021, 4K return to Jesse Boyd and a second 4K class was added in 2022.
Today, Jesse Boyd Elementary serves over 500 students from 4K to 5th grade in approximately 165,000 square feet of building. The school has 2 outdoor recess areas, a nature trail, and several outdoor classroom areas.
