Art

The Art program at Drayton Mills Elementary School follows the SC Standards for Visual Art. Students learn about different media, techniques, and processes. We study the Elements and Principles of Design. We choose and learn about a wide range of subject matter, symbols, and ideas.

We learn about Art History and cultures that create art. We reflect upon our work and the work of others. We make connections between the Visual Arts and other disciplines such as Math, Science, and English Language Arts.

Our students’ artworks are proudly displayed throughout the year in different exhibits and competitions. We participate in the Columbia State Fair Art Exhibition, the Piedmont Interstate Fair Art Exhibition, as well as Youth Art Month, March, at the Chapman Cultural Center.

All students in 1st-5th grades attend art class twice a week and 5K attends art once a week. 5K-2nd grade classes meet for 30 minutes while 3rd-5th grade classes meet for 40 minutes.
