Freedom of Information Requests (FOIA)

The business of Spartanburg School District 7 is open to public review, as is required by the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act. In South Carolina, Freedom of Information Act requests are codified in the SC Code of Laws under Section 30.  The full law can be found here.

FOIA (§30-4-30(c)) allows a public body 10 days (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and legal public holidays) to notify the person making the FOI request its determination of whether the requested information is publicly available and can be fulfilled.  Once this determination is made, the District will begin assembling the requested records/documents. FOIA requires that records be made available for inspection or copying within 30 days from the date on which final determination was provided, unless they are more than 24 months old in which case the timeframe is 35 days.

We do not make public, and will not produce in response to your request, those records that may be exempted under state law, including, but not limited to, trade secrets, personal information of students or teachers, confidential proprietary information, privileged communications, or protected information. We do not provide personally identifiable student information.  We abide by all laws and regulations pertaining to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and do not make public any records protected under these Acts.
